Abstract
Diabetes was examined as a risk factor and a prognostic factor for community-acquired bacteremia caused by Escherichia coli and other enterobacteria in a series of 1317 adult case patients, with 10 population control subjects per case. Persons with diabetes had a substantially increased risk for enterobacterial bacteremia (adjusted odds ratio, 2.9; 95% confidence interval, 2.4-3.4). Among patients with bacteremia, diabetes was also associated with a poorer prognosis.Entities:
