[Primary pulmonary hypertension associated with hyperthyroidism].

J Martos Velasco1.

Abstract

AIM: A clinical case of hyperthyroidism, which began with a primary pulmonary hypertension syndrome, was presented. PATIENT: We describe the case of a woman diagnosed by echo-Doppler as suffering pulmonary hypertension, which was classified as primary. At the same time as this diagnosis, symptoms suggesting hyperthyroidism were presented and then confirmed by hormonal tests.
CONCLUSION: The link between these two conditions has been described, citing an autoimmune etiopathogenesis in the connecting relationship between the two conditions. The connection of primary pulmonary hypertension with other endocrinopathies has also been described. The autoimmune mechanism by which both processes could be interrelated is explained. The role of the primary care physician in the early diagnosis of conditions similar to this one is high-lighted.
