Abstract
Staib liquid medium (syn. Guizotia abyssinica creatinine medium) was evaluated for the induction of chlamydospores in the yeast species Candida dubliniensis. During growth in this liquid medium C. dubliniensis produced abundant chlamydospores at the tips of pseudohyphal elements, whereas C. albicans produced only round to oval blastospores. Chlamydospore formation could be induced with the same efficiency by use of a liquid growth medium in which Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seeds, another plant of the family Compositae, were substituted for Guizotia abyssinica plant seeds. Liquid growth culture conditions for rapid and abundant formation of chlamydospores in C. dubliniensis should facilitate their enrichment and their biochemical and genetic analysis.Entities:
