Charnley low-friction arthroplasty: 19- to 25-year results.

B M Wroblewski1, G W Taylor, P Siney.

Abstract

Our review of 54 patients (57 Charnley low friction arthroplasties) with a 19 to 25 year follow up shows that clinical results remain excellent; clinical results bear no relation to the radiologic appearances of the bone-cement interface on the acetabular side; and the long-term problem is socket wear. The need for regular follow up and study of factors affecting socket wear is emphasized.
