Abstract
Besides their classical haemostatic task, platelets are now recognized as novel cells deeply involved in inflammation. Compelling evidence support their role as active player in mucosal tissue injury that occurs in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. In both forms of inflammatory bowel disease platelets contribute to microvascular endothelial activation and recruitment of inflammatory cells, thus fostering and amplifying mucosal inflammation.Entities:
