Disseminated pyomyositis mimicking idiopathic inflammatory myopathy.

Shahin Walji1, Joel Rubenstein, Patrick Shannon, Simon Carette.

Abstract

Although pyomyositis is uncommon in North America, it may be difficult to distinguish clinically from inflammatory myositis. We describe 2 cases of infectious myositis that were initially diagnosed as inflammatory myositis. As illustrated by these cases, infectious myositis is often a challenging diagnosis and requires a high degree of suspicion.
