The needs of recently diagnosed cancer patients.

Mary Costelloe1, Liz Nelson.

Abstract

The early diagnosis programme at Rossendale Hospice is a specially designed service to cater for the needs of patients with a recent diagnosis of cancer. This article discusses the development of a service model based on the needs of the service users. This nurse-led service provides informal nurse counselling, practical advice, complementary therapies and peer support.
