An expeditious synthesis of beta-indolylketones catalyzed by p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) using ultrasonic irradiation.

Abstract

PTSA catalyzes the Michael addition of indole to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl ketones under ultrasonic irradiation to afford the corresponding product beta-indolylketones in excellent yields (up to 94%).
