Abstract
A total of 478 resident doctors working at our hospital were interviewed regarding development of tuberculosis after joining the hospital. Nine residents had developed tuberculosis, yielding an overall risk of 11.2 cases per 1000 person-years of exposure. Another 231 resident doctors newly admitted to the residency programme over a 1-year period were prospectively followed up over the next year. Four residents in this group developed tuberculosis within 1 year of joining the hospital, yielding an overall incidence of 17.3/1000. Physicians in training have a high risk of developing active tuberculosis after nosocomial transmission.Entities:
