Abstract
SLC5 is an ancient gene family with 11 members in the human genome. These membrane proteins have diverse, multiple functions ranging from actively transporting solutes, ions, and water, to channeling water and urea, to sensing glucose in cholinergic neurons. Metabolic disorders have been identified that are associated with congenital mutations in two of the human genes.Entities:
