Abstract
The ability to sense DNA damage and activate response pathways that coordinate cell cycle progression and DNA repair is essential for the maintenance of genomic integrity and the viability of organisms. During the last couple of years, several proteins have been identified that participate very early in the DNA damage response. Here we review the current understanding of the mechanisms by which mammalian cells detect DNA lesions, especially double-strand breaks, and mediate the signal to downstream transducers.Entities:
