Abstract
This article reviews early experience in the evaluation of the extracranial carotid artery with magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). A historical context is provided, with a brief review of the previously available noninvasive methods used for cervical carotid artery screening. The clinical context within which MRA must play its role is also briefly discussed. Finally, early clinical experience with MRA and several pitfalls are illustrated.Mesh:
