Abstract
Mesalazine is a well-established treatment for ulcerative colitis. A young man treated with mesalazine for proctitis was found to have pathological semen with a count of only 3 x 10(6) sperm cells/ml. He failed to achieve conception with his wife. When mesalazine treatment was stopped, semen analysis returned to near normal and pregnancy ensued. Due to recurrent disease activity, mesalazine treatment was reinstituted. This was followed by deterioration of the patient's semen.Entities:
