Latex hypersensitivity: a new and unexpected problem.

E Gonzalez1.

Abstract

Allergy to such latex products as surgical gloves is a growing medical problem. About 3% of hospital physicians and nurses are affected, and higher rates have been reported in surgical units. Allergic reactions may be delayed (and usually local) or immediate, with systemic derangements that are potentially fatal. Allergic patients are also vulnerable in the hospital setting.
