Toxic encephalopathy induced by capecitabine.

B Niemann1, C Rochlitz, R Herrmann, M Pless.

Abstract

Toxic encephalopathy is a rarely described side effect of 5-fluorouracil which usually presents with cerebellar, neuropsychiatric, and focal neurological symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging findings are described as patchy white matter alterations. We report the 1st case of capecitabine-induced toxic encephalopathy with epilepsy-like symptoms and diffuse white matter alterations on magnetic resonance imaging. Copyright 2004 S. Karger AG, Basel
