Abstract
Acinetobacter baumannii was isolated from blood cultures in 31 patients in 4 intensive care units at a large teaching hospital over a period of 6 months. In 23 of these patients, Acinetobacter was also isolated from tracheal aspirates. Catheter-related infection could be identified as the cause of bacteremia in 14 cases, whereas pneumonia was present in only 6 cases. All patients were seriously ill and 7 (24%) died of their infection.Entities:
