San Francisco serosorting may explain odd HIV data. STDs have risen, but not new HIV infections.

.

Abstract

About a year ago, it seemed to be a pretty safe assumption that HIV incidence was on the rise in San Francisco due to increases in sexually transmitted diseases. But when public health officials studied actual HIV incidence using the detuned assay test, they found HIV incidence was leveling off at the same time STDs were on the rise.
