Ambient levels of benzene in Mumbai city.

Anjali Srivastava1, Abba Elizabeth Joseph, Sheena Nair.

Abstract

An attempt has been made to determine the levels of benzene in air at different locations in Mumbai city. Levels of benzene in air have been determined by adsorbing air at a uniform flow rate on especially fabricated activated coconut charcoal cartridges followed by thermal desorption and detection on Varian GC-MS. The results show that maximum concentrations of benzene have been observed at traffic junctions and petrol pumps.
