Abstract
A Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonococcus, GC) pilin glycosylation gene, pgtA, can either possess or lack phase-variation ability. Many GC, particularly the disseminated strains, carry a phase-variable pgtA. However, other GC, predominantly the uncomplicated gonorrhea isolates, carry a pgtA lacking phase-variability. These and other results suggest GC pilin glycan's pathogenic involvement.Entities:
