Abstract
This is a review article that discusses the trends in the use of enteral and parenteral nutrition support. Although enteral nutrition has existed longer than parenteral nutrition, only recent data would suggest a clinical benefit of enteral nutrition compared with parenteral nutrition. In this article, indications for parenteral nutrition are listed. Also, data comparing bacterial translocation and complications associated with both forms of nutritional support are discussed. Clinical outcome in specific gastrointestinal diseases is also discussed.Entities:
