Shewanella putrefaciens isolated in a case of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Philippe G Jorens1, K Goovaerts, M Ieven.

Abstract

We report the isolation of the aquatic gram-negative bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens from the bronchoalveolar lavage in a case of ventilator-associated pneumonia. To our knowledge, this species has never been isolated from the lower respiratory tract before as a potential pathogen. Copyright 2004 S. Karger AG, Basel
