Abstract
Initiation of DNA replication is mediated by the assembly of nucleoprotein complexes at cis-acting DNA sequences known as origins of replication. Recent studies in several systems show that accessory transcription factors accentuate origin utilization by multiple mechanisms. The remarkable similarities in the activities of accessory transcription factors at promoters and origins of replication suggest that transcription factors play a pivotal role in the regulation of chromosomal DNA synthesis in eukaryotic organisms.Mesh:
