Abstract
The heme-containing protein myeloperoxidase is released from stimulated polymorphonuclear leukocytes at sites of inflammation. It is involved in the generation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and tissue damage. The general properties and functional aspects of this enzyme are reviewed. Special attention is given to luminescence methods for investigating the release of myeloperoxidase from stimulated cells.Entities:
