Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To analyses the features of three operative manner of inferior turbinate on hypertrophic rhinitis (HR) and to propose some suggestion for selection of operative manner on HR. METHOD: One hundred and sixty-two cases of HR were treated separately by submucoperiosteous resection of inferior turbinate bone (group A), partial inferior turbinectomy (group B) and submucosal hot-coagulation of inferior turbinate with microwave (group C). RESULT: Three groups of HR were followed up one year after operation, effective rate was 94.6% in group A, 83.7% in group B and 88.9% in group C respectively. Effective rate had no significant difference among three groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Submucoperiosteous resection of inferior turbinate bone is safe, effective manner for HR with inferior turbinate bony hypertrophy. The same is submucosal hot-coagulation of inferior turbinate by microwave for mucosal hypertrophy. Partial inferior turbinectomy should be preformed cautiously on HR in order to protect the anatomical structure and physiologic functions of nose.
