Abstract
The authors present the review of the literature on the role of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) in scleroderma systematica (SS). It is shown that TNF alpha participates in activation of vascular endothelium, regulation of immune response and metabolism of the connective tissue by modulation of fibroblastic function. SS patients exhibit a systemic and local rise of TNF alpha content. This rise contributes to SS progression, development of fibrosing alveolitis and skin fibrous alterations in Raynaud's syndrome.Entities:
