Diabetes mellitus and pregnancy.

M B Landon1, S G Gabbe.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus represents the most common medical complication of pregnancy. Care programs emphasizing normalization of maternal glucose levels have resulted in perinatal outcome that is nearly equivalent to that observed in normal pregnancies. Reducing the rate of significant congenital anomalies in insulin-dependent women remains a goal for the future.
