The impact of agency policies and protocols on breastfeeding.

D J Ellis.

Abstract

Health care agency policies and protocols exert a considerable effect on the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. Supportive practices, protocols, policies, and philosophies are outlined, and the most prevalent nonsupportive practices are described. Other agency factors affecting the support of breastfeeding, such as diagnostic procedures and medical and surgical interventions, are discussed.
