Abstract
This review provides criteria for defining premature ejaculation (PE) and identifying men with this dysfunction. Included are discussions of possible PE subtypes and causes of PE. Furthermore, two empirically supported cognitive-behavioral approaches for treating PE are described and salient issues surrounding these types of treatment are considered. Biologically based treatments available to PE men are presented, with attention to the relative effectiveness and limitations of the various alternatives. Finally, a model illustrating factors relevant to determining the best therapeutic strategy is described, concluding with a brief discussion of the value of combining biological and psychological modes of treatment.Entities:
