Abstract
A long-sought-after mutation in the manganese superoxide dismutase gene MnSOD has been isolated in Drosophila melanogaster. The MnSOD null mutation is recessive lethal, with death occurring just after eclosion. In this Perspective, I discuss these results and related work in mice within the context of the oxidative damage theory of aging.Entities:
