Spectral analysis of heart rate and psychological state: a review of its validity as a workload index.

P G Jorna1.

Abstract

This paper provides some background information on concepts of mental workload and stress and the possibility of indexing them by means of spectral analysis of heart rate. A literature review of practical implementations of the technique in laboratory and field studies is provided with the purpose of evaluating its utility as a tool in the study of mental workload and stress.
