Sundowning in older people with dementia: evidence base, nursing assessment and interventions.

Abstract

Sundowning is a phenomenon infrequently discussed in UK nursing literature but is a serious cause of distress for many older people and their carers. This article addresses some of the causes of sundowning and suggests ways in which nurses may contribute to better management of the condition.
