Abstract
Twenty-two premature neonates underwent surgical haemoclip closure of patent ductus arteriosus in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Surgery was performed in the NICU in order to prevent hypothermia and interruption of care, and to avoid accidental vascular access removal and extubation. The results suggest that morbidity can be limited by performing the surgery in an NICU, and by switching from conventional to high-frequency mechanical ventilation in case of severe respiratory failure.Entities:
