Abstract

PURPOSE: To describe a mass caused by a hard contact lens in the upper eyelid.
METHODS: We present a case of a 77-year-old man who complained of a mass in his right upper eyelid. He had previously undergone cataract surgery in the right eye at age 60 and then became a hard contact lens wearer. He underwent horizontal wedge-shaped excision of the tarsus at age 73.
RESULTS: The mass in the right upper eyelid was excised. During the surgery, a hard contact lens was found embedded in the mass near the excision site of the tarsus.
CONCLUSIONS: Hard contact lens migration through the wedge-shaped excision site of the tarsus into the upper eyelid, as seen in our patient, may be rare.
