Abstract
In summary, this chapter describes the biology and genetics of the major and minor histocompatibility antigens and the nature of in vitro and in vivo immune responses to them and to tissue-specific antigens. It reviews the nature and action of immune response genes. It gives an account of how tolerance to histocompatibility antigens was originally defined and the prospects of intervention aimed at establishing tolerance to these and tissue-specific antigens in adult animals, including man.Entities:
