HYPERTROPHIC SUBAORTIC STENOSIS; CLINICAL RECOGNITION IN CHILDREN.

R WEISS.

Abstract

Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis is a potentially serious condition which may cause sudden death. The murmur is characteristically systolic ejection and is maximal at the left sternal border. When faint, it may be confused with a non-organic murmur and when loud it may be mistaken for a ventricular septal defect or mitral insufficiency. Evidence of left ventricular hypertrophy on an electrocardiogram should alert the clinician to the possibility of this disease.
