Abstract
Since there is still little mechanization in medical documentation, it seemed interesting to study an attempt at automation in a medical specialty, cancerology. The author explains the difficulties which derive from the multidisciplinary nature of the specialty itself and from the diversity of its users' needs. The system used is Filmorex, which is described in some detail. The author then examines the problems connected with the development of a documentation language and describes an attempt to solve these problems in a documentation center of moderate size (10,000 documents per year). Keywords: ABSTRACTING AND INDEXING; AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING; AUTOMATION; BIBLIOGRAPHY; MEDICINE; NEOPLASMS
