A functional job analysis technique.

S H Rodgers.

Abstract

An analytical approach is presented for evaluating functional job demands and for facilitating a team problem-solving process that should find cost-effective resolutions for designs that do not meet ergonomic guidelines. Information is included on ways to collect information about the job elements and demands, how to relate the demands to population work capacities, how to predict fatiguing tasks, and how to facilitate a problem-solving session within the plant or business. A case study is used to illustrate the process from the initial review of jobs in a plant to the generation of a list of possible actions and their expected benefits.
