Abstract
Large hypodermal cells with giant polytene chromosomes are present within the developing feet of Sarcophaga and other fly pupae. The cells secrete a large volume of cuticle; at this time there is extensive "puffing" of the chromosomes. Being hypodermal and superficially situated with permanent secretory products, the cells could be ideal experimental and genetical tools.Keywords: ANATOMY; CHROMOSOMES; DIPTERA; EXPERIMENTAL LAB STUDY
