The effect of corticotrophin and corticosteroids on the external secretion of the pancreas in dogs.

W SIRCUS.

Abstract

In acute experiments in dogs cortisone and hydrocortisone increase the concentration and output of bicarbonate in pancreatic secretion whereas prolonged administration of these hormones leads to a diminished bicarbonate response. In both acute and chronic experiments, however, cortisone and hydrocortisone produce an increased output of the enzymes amylase and trypsin.
