The effect of corticotrophin zinc on plasma 17-hydroxycorticoids as a test of adrenal cortical function.

J S JENKINS.

Abstract

The response of plasma 17-hydroxycorticoids to corticotrophin has been determined using a simplified technique. Steroid levels appeared to be maximal four hours after the injection of 40 units of corticotrophin zinc. No response was obtained in cases of Addison's disease and a sluggish increase occurred in hypopituitarism. The effect of steroid therapy is discussed.
