Abstract
Several functionally distinct families of transport proteins share the general structural motif of twelve transmembrane domains. The number of membrane proteins known to possess this common feature continues to expand with the cloning of transporters for various neurotransmitters, nucleosides, osmolytes and basic amino acids, in addition to the previously defined families of facilitative and sodium-driven sugar transporters.Entities:
