Abstract
Adiponectin, a protein produced exclusively in adipose tissue, occurs in serum in relatively high concentration. Its concentration is decreased in obese and in type 2 diabetic humans. When administered to mice, it enhances insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, and appears to increase free fatty acid oxidation in muscle. Adiponectin is likely to be involved in the regulation of energy homeostasis.Entities:
