Abstract
Transmitter-gated channels, which can be selective for cations or for anions, form an important class among the membrane receptors responsible for signal transduction. Thirteen principal types of these channels can now be recognized and most of these are available for analysis in recombinant form. It is instructive to contrast their characteristic structural features with those of the two other primary classes of the signal-transducing receptors of membranes.Mesh:
