Abstract
We have investigated the expression of the peptidoglycan hydrolase gene (lytA) of Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 8325. Results from in vitro transcription-translation analysis, maxicell experiments, and Northern (RNA) blot analysis suggest that the lytA gene encodes a polypeptide of M(r) approximately 50,000. Physical mapping data indicate that the lytA gene originated from prophage 11 in the NCTC 8325 strain.Entities:
