[Radiological anatomy of the umbilical vein, the venous duct and the portal vein in human fetuses and neonates].

E Richter.

Abstract

Selected examples of 44 postmortem angiographies of human fetuses and neonates demonstrate the radiological anatomy of those vessels which are important for umbilical vein catheterization. The tip of an indwelling endhole umbilical venous catheter should ideally be located in the inferior vena cava directly below the right artrium of within the right atrium. A radiological control of the catheter's position is mandatory in order to avoid complications and late sequelae.
