Abstract
A study of the hypothalamic nuclei of the rat, using a variety of histochemical methods, has shown the distribution of mucopolysaccharides and neurosecretory material. In all the hypothalamic nuclei there are two types of neurons and in some a third type characterized by the presence of hyaluronidase-resistant acid mucopolysaccharides in the periphery of the perikaryon. These type III neurons also contain Gomori-positive material and neutral mucopolysaccharides. It is considered that hypothalamic nuclei with type III neurons have similar neurosecretory properties.Entities:
