Role of pi form of glutathione S-transferase (GST-pi) in cancer: a minireview.

J Gajewska1, M Szczypka.

Abstract

The pi class of the glutathione S-transferases is the most abundant of the human glutathione S-transferases family and is expressed almost in all tissues. However, the role of this protein is still poorly defined. It is suggested that this protein may serve as a marker for malignant transformation in some tissues. Additionally it seems that the phenomenon of tumour drug resistance may depend on the elevation of the glutathione S-transferase-pi. In this article we have attempted to review present knowledge concerning above problems.
