Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To investigate clinical results of posterior pedicle screw system and interbody fusion in the treatment of degenerative scoliosis.
METHODS: From September 1997 to June 2002, 32 cases with degenerative scoliosis were analyzed for operative effect, postoperative complication and follow-up results.
RESULTS: The average correcting ratio of scoliosis was 47.9%, and pain relief ratio 90.6%. There was one case of pseudoarthritis and one case of brain vessel embolism. After an average 15-month (6-57 months) follow-up, there was no loss of correction and height of disc spaces and there was no shift of interbody cages.
CONCLUSION: Posterior pedicle screw combined with interbody fusion is one of safe and effective treatments of degenerative scoliosis.
