Medical morbidity in binge eating disorder.

Cynthia M Bulik1, Ted Reichborn-Kjennerud.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To explore the extent to which binge eating disorder (BED) is associated with medical morbidity.
METHOD: We reviewed all existing studies on the effects of BED on physical health.
RESULTS: BED may be associated with medical morbidity independent of the effects of comorbid psychopathology or comorbid obesity. DISCUSSION: Additional research specifically designed to explore the effects of BED on physical health in both clinical and community samples is required before definitive conclusions can be drawn.
