Deep vein thrombosis and acute cytomegalovirus infection: case report and review of the literature.

Abstract

We report the case of a 17-year-old girl with constitutional protein C deficiency who developed massive femoral vein and inferior vena cava thrombosis during the course of an acute cytomegalovirus infection. The possible role of cytomegalovirus in the pathophysiology of venous thrombosis is discussed and a review of the literature is made concerning this peculiar association.
